Weekends are for thinking and gardening and hanging out with family. I got thinking this weekend, and here's my first donation to the world of Lists...
I couldn't raise kids without... (okay, it's an exaggeration... I really really appreciate these things, but yes, I could make do it without some them...)
# My husband
# Our dog
How many tantrums have been interrupted then distracted from with the words "Oh!
Stop. Listen... what's the dog barking at?"
# Outside
# Grandparents
There just aren't enough words to describe how important grandparents are. I love watching our kids get to know their grandparents (and great-grandparents for that matter... lucky kids!). And I never could have guessed how deeply I love that my kids adore all their grandparents.
# Books
# Chalk and concrete or bricks
# A splashing tub, a hose, a sprinkler, and a tank of rainwater
# Playdough
# Television (oh, who needs a picture of television... and it is the one big reluctant inclusion in this list... but one that needed to be there for honesty sake... sometimes I just need to be able to follow a straight line of thought for more than a minute... and sometimes a rainy day just seems like it is giving me permission to let ABC for Kids do a bit of the educating...)
So, what things would be on your list?
Great list, Grace! We share a few tools: husbands, water buckets/sprinklers and books...I also use the tupperware drawer for fussy babies when I'm cooking dinner, matchbox cars, the trampoline and the sandpit! Absolute lifesavers :). And even though we don't have a TV, there have been a handful of occasions on rainy days where I've parked them all in front of a DVD so I can get some jobs done! Julie :)
ReplyDeleteI'm an older Mum. My kids are now finishing University, at University or about to go...but my list always included many of the items on yours. I never had the benefit of Grandparents on hand. But had fantastic girlfriends . You can't go past good friends who can help you out when you need it. Whether babysitting, listening, or just giving you a hug when you need it. Friends are a definite on my list.
ReplyDeletemy list for 2 busy boys would be...Lego (or some sort of building blocks), food/snacks, a soccerball to kick around, playgroups/friends, trampoline, books, TV....by the way, don't feel guilty about TV. I think TV is a fantastic resource for kids when it is time managed and used sensibly!! Great list Grace!
ReplyDeleteHow could I forget FRIENDS! and the trampoline has been a great entertainer and burner of extra energy. Thanks for your input! g
ReplyDeleteAt the risk of sounding superficial, I'll add nappysan for soaking dirty clothes and good coffee to kick-start my day.
ReplyDeleteGreat list!!!! Many of mine are on yours too.
ReplyDeleteTv + DVDs definitely make my list too :-)
